Compelling adventure movie, The Way Back (cert PG13), will be screened at the Centenary Centre by Films in Peel on Wednesday 14th December.
This 2010 movie tells the tale of an incredible journey by a diverse group of Soviet Gulag escapees who set off on a long walk to freedom across 4,000 miles of treacherous terrain from Siberia to India. Directed by renowned Australian Oscar nominee, Peter Weir ("Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World", "The Truman Show") and inspired by the book "The Long Walk: A True Story of a Trek to Freedom" by Slawomir Rawicz, this is a film to be watched on the big screen. The majestic and breathtakingly beautiful landscapes are the backdrop to this marathon trek for survival across Mongolia and the Gobi desert. The excellent cast includes Jim Sturgess ("21"), Ed Harris ("The Rock"), Colin Farrell ("In Bruges"), Saoirse Ronan ("The Lovely Bones"), and Mark Strong ("Sherlock Holmes"). British actor Mark Strong plays Khabrov, the man behind the idea of escaping from the harsh Soviet Gulag. As the idea comes to fruition and others come on board it becomes clear that Khabrov had no intention of leaving at all.
The incredible cinematography and the tale of human endurance in the quest for freedom make this a feel-good film well worth seeing.
The film starts at 7:45pm, doors open at 7:15pm. Tickets cost £4 (£3 concs) and are available from Celtic Gold in Peel or on the door unless sold out. Reservation tickets with seat guarantee (payment on the door) are also available from Mostly Manx (Douglas), Shakti Man ( Ramsey) and Thompson Travel (Port Erin).
The last Films in Peel movie of the season will be a family Christmas special on Wednesday 21st December at 6pm, the Oscar winning animation Toy Story 3 (cert U). Tickets on sale soon.
